1. What do you understand by the term 'workplace accidents'?
Answer: A workplace accident is one that happens in one's workplace. We can define it as an unplanned event that results in personal injury or damage to the property. Accidents can't be avoided 100% of the time simply because some things cannot be foreseen. There are different types of workplace accidents:
* Repetitive Strain Injury
* Cuts and lacerations
*Slips, Trips and Falls
* Crashes and collisions
* Inhaling Toxic Fumes etc.
2. Explain the following types of accidents?

Answer:
a. Repetitive Stain Injury: Repetitive strain injury is another problem that has become increasingly commonplace at work over the years, though even now some employers don't seem to take is very seriously. It is not just a problem for those of us who regularly use keyboards in our work. In fact, it can result from any repetitive motion of the joints.
b. Cuts and Lacerations: Many workplaces have tools and implements which can give their user a painful cut. The most common causes of these cuts and lacerations include poor training, inadequate safety procedures and failing to wear the proper protection.
c. Slips, Trips and Falls: Slip and fall related accidents are among the most common type of workplace accidents. They are a leading cause of occupational injury to senior workers who are 55 years or more of age. These accidents can happen in any work environment and the injuries sustained can range in severity.
3. What is a workplace emergency? Name any five workplace emergencies?
Answer: A workplace emergency is an unforeseen situation that threatens your employees, customers, or the public; disrupts or shuts down your operations; or causes physical or environmental damage. Emergencies may be natural or manmade and include things like epidemics, fires, floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, release of toxic gases.
4. How would you handle a workplace emergency? Explain.
Answer: To mitigate or minimize the damage that an emergency situation may cause , we need an emergency action plan. When developing your emergency action plan, it's a good idea to look at a wide variety of potential emergencies that could occur in your workplace. It should be tailored to your worksite and include information about all potential sources of emergencies.
5. What do you understand by 'Emergency Action Plan'?
Answer: Developing an emergency action plan means you should do a hazard assessment to determine what, if any, physical or chemical hazards in your workplaces could cause an emergency. If you have more than one worksite, each site should have an emergency action plan. Emergency action plan must include the following:
* A preferred method for reporting fires and other emergencies like installing fire or weather alarms.
* An evacuation policy and procedure.
* Emergency escape procedures and route assignments, such as floor plans, workplace maps, and safe or refuge areas.
6. List a few conditions following which an evacuation is carried out?

It is therefore important to determine the following while developing your emergency action plan:
1. Conditions under which an evacuation would be necessary
2. A clear chain of command and designation of the person in the organization who is authorized to order an evacuation or shutdown.
3. Specific evacuation procedures, including routes and exits.
4. Procedures for assisting people with disabilities.
7. What is an emergency procedure map?
Answer: Emergency procedure maps or diagrams are located within buildings throughout the workplace. These diagrams provide floor plans showing the locations of emergency exits and emergency equipment and maps for evacuation routes and emergency assembly areas.
