D. Answer the following questions. Short Answer
1. Define the following terms:
a. Input device b. Output device c. Storage device d. Peripheral device
Answer:
a. Input device: It provides input to the computer. Devices that are used to give input to computer. Example: Keyboard, Mouse, Scanner, Touch screen etc.
b. Output device: Devices that are used to take result or output from computer. Example-Monitor, Speaker, Printer etc.
c. Storage device: Devices that are used to store data is called storage device. Example- Hard Disk, CD, DVD etc.
d. Peripheral device: A peripheral device is an external hardware component that connects to a computer to add functionality.
2. Differentiate between RAM and ROM.
Answer:
RAM: RAM stands for Random Access Memory. It is a primary memory. It is volatile by nature.
ROM: ROM stands for Read Only Memory. The instruction to start computer are stored in read only memory chip. It is permanent and non-volatile in nature.
3. Compare primary memory and secondary memory.
Answer:
Primary Memory: Primary memory or internal memory is also called main memory of the computer, stores the programs and data. It is a built in memory.
Secondary Memory: External Memory is also called as secondary memory. Secondary memory is not expensive in comparision to primary memory. Secondary storage devices are- CD, DVD, Pen Drive etc.
4. Describe the functions of CPU.
Answer: The primary function of a CPU is to process instructions from computer programs, acting as the brain of computer.
Functions of CPU:
* Fetching instructions
* Decoding instructions
* Execute instructions
* Controlling operations
* Input/ouput operations
* Arithmetic and logic
5. Describe the function of the following peripheral devices.
a. Bluetooth adapter b. Digital camera c. Camcorder d. Graphic card e. Sound card
Answer:
a. Bluetooth adapter: A Bluetooth adapter is a small device that plugs into a computer's USB port and acts as a bluetooth receiver.
b. Digital camera: A digital camera, also a digicam, is a camera that captures photographs in digital memory. Most cameras produced today are digital.
c. Camcorder: A camcorder is a self contained portable electronic device with video and recording as its primary function.
d. Graphic card: A graphics card, also known as a video card or GPU(Graphics Processing Units), is a hardware component that renders images, videos, and animations.
e. Sound card: A sound card is a computer hardware component that enables audio input and output. It converts digital audio signals into analog signals that can be played through speakers or headphones, and it can also convert analog audio signals into digital data.
E. Answer the following questions. Long Answer
1. What do you mean by IPO cycle? Is it applicable in our daily task?
Answer: The IPO cycle refers to the fundamental Input-Processing-Output cycle that lies at the core of computer programming and data processing. It forms the foundation for creating efficient and functional programs that can carry out tasks seamlessly.It is applicable in our daily task also.
2. Write a brief note about the major development in computer technology with respect to peripheral devices.
Answer: Peripheral devices have seen significant advancements, particularly in areas like wireless connectivity, increased speed and resolution, and enhanced user experience.
Peripheral devices are exteranl hardware components that connect to a computer to enhance its functionality. They are not essentail for the computers basic operation but allow users to interact with the system and access additional data sources.
Developments in peripheral devices include:
* Wireless connectivity
* Increased speed and resolution
* Enhanced user experience
* Specialized devices
* Improved input methods
3. How DVD technology is different from Blu-ray technology?
Answer: Blu-ray technology differs from DVD technology primarily in storage capacity and video quality.Blu-ray uses a blue laser with a shorter wavelength, enabling higher data density and thus larger storage capacity (up ot 50 GB for dual layer Blu-ray) and better video resolution (1080p, or full HD, compared to DVD standard definition 480p).
* Laser and Storage:
DVD- Uses a red laser with a wavelength of 650 nm.
Blue-ray- Uses a blue-violet laser with a shorter wavelength of 405nm.
* Storage Capacity:
DVD- Typically stores 4.7 GB
Blu-ray- Can store 25 GB
* Video Quality:
DVD- Supports standard definition video, usually 720x480p
Blu-ray- Supports high-defintion(HD) video, usually 1920x1080p.
4. What are bar code readers used for?
Answer: A barcode reader also known as a barcode scanner, is an electronic device that reads and decodes information encoded in bar codes. It uses optical technology to scan the barcode, converting the pattern of lines and spaces into digital data that can be processed by a computer.
Function- Barcode readers capture the data encoded in barcodes.
Components- They typically include a light source, a lens, and a light sensor.
Decoding- These signals are then passed through a decoder, either integrated into the reader or as a separate unit.
Output: The decoded data is sent to a computer or other device.
5. What is a smart card? List two uses of smart cards.
Answer: A smart card is a plastic card containing a computer chip that can store, process, and transmit data. These chips can be microprocessors or memory chips, allowing for various functionalities like secure transaction, identification.
Features of Smart Cards:
* Integrated chip
* Data storage and processing
* Enhanced security
How Smart Cards Work:
* Data storage
* Communication
* Security features
