1. What is an operating system?
Answer: An operating system is a system software that manages computer hardware, software resources, and provides common services for computer programs.

2. Mention any three functions of the operating system.
Answer: Three functions of the operating system:
1. It manages all devices of a computer.
2. It also checks if the device is functioning properly or not.
3. It controls the software resources of the computer.

3. Name any three operating systems for the computer.
Answer: Three operating systems are:
1. DOS: Disk Operating System
2. Windows: It is an operating system developed by Microsoft.
3. Linux: It is design for personal computer and servers.

4. Name any three mobile operating system.
Answer: Three mobile operating system:
1. Android
2. Symbian
3. Windows Phone

5. What is the name given to the screen which appears just after the windows operating system is loaded?
Answer: Name of the screen which appears just after the windows operating system loaded is wallpaper.

6. Name two special icons on the desktop.
Answer: There are many icons on the desktop. Two special icons are: Computer, Recycle bin.


7. Describe the steps to create a new folder.
Answer: Steps to create a new folder:
1. Right click on the desktop.
2. A drop-down list will appear.
3. Click on new option, new folder option will appear.
4. Click on new folder option.

8. Describe the steps to delete a folder.
Answer: Steps to delete a folder:
1. Select a folder that you want to delete.
2. Press delete button on the keyboard.
or
2. Right click on the folder, a drop down list will appear.
3. Click on the delete option.

9. Describe the difference between moving and copying a file.
Answer: 
Moving: When we move a file, the original file move to another location from the old location.
Copy: When we copy a file, a duplicate file will be created in the new location.

10. What is the difference between file and folder?
Answer: File is a document that we create, folder contain many files. Folder is a collection of files.

11. How can one empty the recycle bin? Describe the steps.
Answer: 
1. Right click on the recycle bin, a drop down list will appear.
2. Click on empty recycle bin option form the drop down list.

12. Describe the steps using any one method to move the folder from one location to another.
Answer: Steps to move a folder:
1. Right click on the folder, a drop down list will appear.
2. Click on cut option form the list.
3. Right click where you want to move a folder.
4. Click on paste option from drop down list.

13. Discuss why we need to maintain the computer?
Answer: We need to maintain the computer in order to keep the computer running efficiently, fast and for a long time.

14. Describe the possible caused for slowing down of the computer.
Answer: There many reasons for slowing down the computer:
1. Storage of computer is full.
2. Virus in computer.
3. Running more programs at a time.

15. What are antiviruses? Name any two antiviruses.
Answer: Antivirus is software that protect our computer from virus.
There are many antiviruses:
1. Avast
2. Norton
3. McAfee
4. Kaspersky


16. Give three common signs which show that the virus has infected the computer.
Answer: Three common signs of virus are:
1. The computer suddenly start
2. The computer system hangs
3. The computer restarts on its own.

17. What are the various ways by which the computer could get infected with virus?
Answer: Different ways by which the computer could get infected with virus:
1. Through infected CD/DVD
2. Through infected pen drive.
3. Through infected file.
4. Through infected file attachment.

18. What are cookies? How do they help?
Answer: Cookies are small files that are stored on the users computer when visiting any website while browsing the internet. The help navigate the website and sometimes collect the browsing behaviour of the person using the computer, and help in interacting with the website.

19. What is a firewall in computing terminology?
Answer: A computer firewall is a network security system that monitors and controls incoming and outgoing network traffic, such as from internet, based on predetermined security rules. A firewall can be a programmable device or a software.
