1. What are pixels?
Answer: Pixels are dots of colours arranged on a regular grid in a pattern representing the form to be displayed.
2. What do you understand by resolution of an image and why is it important?
Answer: Resolution refers to the number of coloured dots-per-inch(dpi) or pixels-per-inch.
The resolution of an image is directly proportional to the size of the file.
3. Explain how the different Lasso tools function.
Answer:
Simple Lasso tool is a free hand selection tool with only straight lines.
The Polygonal Lasso has both straight and curved line selections.
The Magnetic Lasso attracts the outline of the image and specifies the key nodes automatically.
4. Why do you use the Magic Wand tool?
Answer: Magic Wand allows you to select parts of an image based on color similarities.
5. What is the advantage of working in layers in Photoshop?
Answer: If you want to modify any part of the image, you can simply select that layer and make the changes, without affecting the rest of the image. The Layer menu has options to create, modify and manipulate layers.
6. Define the following file formats:
I. TIFF II. GIF III. PDF
Answer:
I.TIFF: The full form of TIFF is Tag Image File Format. This file format gives you high quality image but has a much bigger file size.
II. GIF: The full form of GIF is Graphical Interchange Format. It is one of the three most common graphic formats used for web publishing.
III. PDF: Documents created in this kind of format can be read across different programs. The full form of PDF is Portable Document Format.
7. How do you reduce the file size of an image?
Answer: The resolution of an image is directly proportional to the size of the file. So by reducing the resolution of an image we can reduce the size of an image.
