6. Topology are the standard set of rules and regulations in a network.
Answer: T
C. Answer the following questions:
1. Explain the term Computer Networking. Briefly discuss the advantages of networking.
Answer: Computers are being widely used to communicate by connecting them together. This process of connecting computers is known as computer networking.
Advantages of computer networking:
. It allows different computers to communicate with one another.
. It makes sharing of data and resources easier.
. It saves time and money.
2. Discuss the various types of networks based on their size and spread.
Answer: A Network is a collection of interconnected computers.
Networks can be divided into three types:
. LAN-Local Area Network
. MAN- Metropolitan Area Network
. WAN- Wide Area Network
LAN: A small group of computers connected in a localized area, for example- in a building, office etc.
MAN: This is a network of computers spread over a city or town. MAN network covers a larger area as compared to LAN.
WAN: The networks spread across cities and countries are known as Wide Area Networks. The computers are separated by large distances in different cities, states and countries.
3. What is the difference between LAN and WAN?
Answer:
LAN: A small group of computers connected in a localized area, for example- in a building, office etc.
WAN: The networks spread across cities and countries are known as Wide Area Networks. The computers are separated by large distances in different cities, states and countries.
4. Explain NIU.
Answer: It is a device used for connecting the server and the workstations. It helps in the communication between the server and the nodes.
5. What do you understand by Topology of networks?
Answer: The pattern of interconnection of nodes using cables in a network is called Network Topology.
There are three basic topologies:
. Bus Topology: In Bus network, all the computers and peripheral devices are connected to one single cable called the Bus.
. Star Topology: In Star Topology, the server is placed at the center to which all the other nodes are connected.
. Ring Topology: In a Ring network, the nodes are connected in a circular chain in which each node connected to the next. The last node in the chain is connected to the first node.
6. What do you understand by communication channels? Name the different types of communication channels.
Answer: All networks need to be linked to each other. Media or channels refer to the wires, cables or any other means by which data travels from the source to the destination.
The most commonly used media are:
. Twisted Pair Wire
. Coaxial Cable,
. Fiber Optic Cable, and
. Wireless Links.
7. Write the advantages of Wireless Links.
Answer: Advantages of Wireless Links:
. Office LAN can use radio signals to transmit data between nodes.
. Local Area Networks can be connected using microwave transmission within metropolitan are.
. Satellites and microwaves are used to connect WAN covering large distances.
