1. Distinguish between information and information technology.
Answer: Data refers to the raw facts and figures, which can be processed to get information. Thus information is nothing but processed data.
Information Technology is the use of computers to store, retrieve, transmit, and manipulate data, or information, often in the context of a business or other enterprises.

2. What do you understand by the term ITeS?
Answer: ITeS(information technology enabled services) refers to those processes or services which can be offered from a remote location through the use of information technology systems.

3. What is the meaning of the term outsourcing? How is it beneficial for the business organizations?
Answer: Outsourced service means a service which is obtained from an outside supplier through a contract. ITeS refers to the outsourcing of processes or services that can be enabled with information technology.

4. What do you understand by BPO? Give names of some important BPO companies in India.
Answer: Business Process Outsourcing(BPO) is a type of outsourcing where responsibility of performing a particular business process is contracted to an outside service provider. This allows companies to focus on their core business processes.

5. What is the IT-BPM sector? How is it helping the Indian economy?
Answer: BPM stands for Business Process Management. It is a discipline in which people use various methods to discover, model, analyze, measure, improve, optimize, and automate business processes. The IT-BPM industry has almost doubled in terms of revenue and contribution to India's GDP over the last decade.

6. What are the three main types of organizations that constitute the IT-BPM sector in India?
Answer: IT-BPM companies in India can be divided into three main types as given below: 
1. Multinational Companies (MNCs): MNCs have their headquarters outside India but operate in multiple locations worldwide including those in India.
2. Indian companies: These companies have their origins in India. Most of them have their headquarters in India while having offices in many international locations.
3. Global In-house Centers(GICs): GIC organizations cater to the needs of their parent company ony and do not serve external clients.

7. How is BPO sector different from the BPM sector?
Answer: Business Process Outsourcing(BPO) is a type of outsourcing where responsibility of performing a particular business process is contracted to an outside service provider. This allows companies to focus on their core business processes.

8. Give some examples of the use of IT in our everyday life.
Answer: In our everyday life, we use computers and smart phones to store al the  information that we need for our personal and business use. Examples: Washing machine, refrigerator, car, microwave oven, geyser, ATM machines etc.

9. Write a short note on the use of IT in Banks.
Answer: Today, banking is almost totally dependent on computers. Banks provide a number of specialized facilities to its customers through the use of IT.
Online accounting facility, which includes checking current balance, making deposits and overdrafts, checking interest charges, shares, and trustee records.
Facilities for processing of online and offline financial transactions including fund transfers through credit cards, debit cards, smart banking etc. 

10. How is education in our country getting benefitted from the use of IT?
Answer: Information Technology is playing a major role for both, the students and the teachers, by helping the students, to achieve a better understanding, learning and education while allowing the teachers to keep themselves up-to-date and improve their teaching skills.

11. Describe the role of IT in the healthcare sector.
Answer: Today, computers and IT are playing a very important role in the healthcare industry. In the hospitals computes are used to keep records of the patients and their medical history. Computers are used in scanning and diagnosing different diseases. Computerized machines are used for ECG, EEG, Ultrasound and CT scans and other type of diagnostic tests.

12. How the use of IT is helping the government to deliver various  government services to the citizens?
Answer: Various government  and government agencies in India  are among the biggest consumers of information technology services. Government uses computers on a huge scale for its daily operations. It also actively encourages people to adopt e-payments, e-banking and e-governance practices.
