Insert Tab Features in MS
Excel:
Insert Tab features are most frequently used
features in MS Excel. Insert tab features helps us to insert Chart, Word Art,
Clip Art, Shapes, Pictures, Smart Art, Tables, Header & Footer, Symbols etc
in a Worksheet to make worksheet more presentable. As we know Insert tab has
different groups. Some Insert tab groups are:
Table Group:
Table group has two options; one is Pivot table and
second is Table.

Pivot Table:
Pivot table make it easy to arrange and summarize complicated data and drill
down on details.
2.
Table: It is
used to create a table to manage and arrange related data. Table option makes
it easy to sort, filter and format data within a worksheet.
Illustration Group:
Illustration
Group has four options-Picture, Clip Art, Shapes, and Smart Art.

Picture: This
option is used to insert a picture from your computer.
To insert a picture follow the given steps:
Step: 1. Click on Insert tab.
Step: 2. Click on Picture option on Illustration group.
Step: 3. Select a picture that you want to insert.
Step: 4. Click on Insert option.

Clip Art: This
option is used to insert Clip Art into a document including movies, drawings,
sounds, or photography to illustrate a specific concept.
To insert Clip Art follow the given steps:
Step: 1. Click on Insert tab.
Step: 2. Click on Clip Art option on Illustration group. Clip Art pane will
display on the right side of a sheet.
Step: 3. Type Clip Art name in the search box that you want to insert.
Step: 4. Click on Go button. Clip Art will display in the Pane.
Step: 5. Click on Clip Art and drag it to your desired location on the
sheet.

Shapes: This
option is used to insert ready-made shapes such as rectangles, triangles,
square, lines, circles, flowchart symbols etc.
To insert shape follow the given steps:
Step: 1. Click on Insert tab.
Step: 2. Click on Shape option under Illustration group. A drop-down list
of different shapes will display.
Step: 3. Click on any shape that you need.
Step: 4. Move mouse cursor at your desired location and press left mouse
button and drag. Shape will insert.
4.
Smart Art: It is
used to insert Smart Art Graphics to visually communicate information.
To insert Smart Art follow the given steps:
Step: 1. Click on Insert tab.
Step: 2. Click on Smart Art option under illustration group. A Smart Art
Graphic window will display.
Step: 3. Select any Smart Art Graphic.
Charts Group:
Chart group has
various charts such as Column Char, Pie Chart, Line Chart, Bar Char, Area
Chart, Scatter and some other charts also available.

Column Chart:
Column Charts are used to compare values across categories.
2.
Pie Chart: Pie chart
displays the contribution of each value to a total.
3.
Line Chart: Line
charts are used to display trends over time.
4.
Bar Chart: Bar
charts are the best chart type for comparing multiple values.
5.
Area Chart: Area
charts emphasize difference between several sets of data over a period of time.
6.
Scatter Chart:
This type of chart compares pairs of values.
Before inserting
a chart you have to make a excel sheet.
To insert a
chart follow the given steps:
Step: 1. Click
on Insert tab.
Step: 2. Choose
any type chart from charts group under insert tab. When you will click on any
type of chart, a drop-down list of that chart will display.
Links Group:
It is used to
create a link to a web page, picture, e-mail address, programs etc.
Text Group:
Text group has various options such as Text box, Header & Footer,
WordArt, Signature line, Object, and Symbol.
Text Box: It is
used to insert a text box that can be positioned anywhere on the page.
Header &
Footer: Header & Footer option is used to edit header & footer. Header
is present on the top of the page and footer present on the bottom of the page.
Header & footer contain some information such as title, page number, date,
time etc.
To insert Header
& Footer follow the given steps:
Step: 1. Click
on Insert tab.
Step: 2. Click
on Header & Footer option. Click to add header and footer box will display.
Step: 3. Type
text in the box.
Word Art: It is
used to insert decorative text in your document.
To insert
Word Art follow the given steps:
Step: 1. Click
on Insert tab.
Step: 2. Click
on Word Art option. It will display some text styles.
Step: 3. Select
any Word Art style. It will display ‘You Text Here’ box.
Step: 4. Type
any text in the given box.
Signature Line: It is used to insert a signature line that specifies an individual who must
sign.
Object: This
option is used to insert embedded object.
Symbol: This
option is used to insert characters that are not available on keyboard such as
copyright symbols, trademark symbols, paragraph marks, and Unicode characters.
To insert symbol
follow the given steps:
Step: 1. Click
on Insert tab.
Step: 2. Click
on Symbol option under text group. It will display symbols window.
Step: 3. Choose
any symbol from symbols window and click on Insert.
