Verbal communication is the use of words to convey a message. It can be oral (spoken) or written.
Non-verbal communication is the transmission of messages without using words. It includes body language, facial expressions, gestures, eye contact, posture, tone of voice, and use of space and time.

2. What is oral communication and describe its advantages and disadvantages?
Answer:
Oral communication is the process of expressing information or ideas through spoken words. It includes face-to-face conversations, meetings, telephone calls, presentations, etc.
Advantages:
1. Immediate feedback
2. Personal touch and emotional connection
3. Quick and time-saving
4. Flexible and can be adjusted according to the listener’s reaction
5. Suitable for discussions and brainstorming
Disadvantages:
1. No permanent record (unless recorded)
2. Can be easily forgotten or misunderstood
3. Not suitable for long or complex information
4. May lead to distortion of message when passed through many people
5. Affected by speaker’s tone, accent, or speaking style

3. Define written communication and its importance in business.
Answer:
Written communication is the process of exchanging information through written words. It includes letters, emails, reports, memos, notices, contracts, etc.
Importance in Business:
1. Provides a permanent record for future reference
2. Helps in maintaining clarity and accuracy
3. Useful for legal and official purposes
4. Can be easily circulated to a large number of people
5. Reduces misunderstandings as the message is documented
6. Allows time for careful drafting and editing

4. What are the disadvantages of written communication?
Answer:
The main disadvantages of written communication are:
1. Time-consuming (drafting, editing, and sending takes time)
2. No immediate feedback
3. Lacks personal touch and emotional appeal
4. Can be expensive (printing, postage, etc.)
5. Difficult to maintain secrecy
6. Language barriers or poor writing skills can create confusion
Once sent, it cannot be changed or withdrawn easily

5. Explain visual and auditory.
Answer:
Visual Communication: It involves the use of visual elements to convey messages. Examples include charts, graphs, diagrams, pictures, videos, signs, symbols, and body language (gestures and facial expressions). It is very effective because “a picture is worth a thousand words.”
Auditory Communication: It involves the use of sound or spoken words to communicate. It includes oral communication, music, alarms, bells, tone of voice, etc. It is fast and allows immediate response.
6. Describe Body Language.
Answer:
Body language is a type of non-verbal communication in which physical behavior, as opposed to words, is used to express or convey information. It includes:
* Facial expressions
* Gestures
* Posture and stance
* Eye contact
* Head movements
* Proximity (personal space)
Body language often reveals a person’s true feelings more accurately than words.

7. Explain kinesics.
Answer:
Kinesics is the study of body movements, gestures, facial expressions, and posture as a means of communication. It was introduced by anthropologist Ray Birdwhistell.
Kinesics includes:
1. Emblems (specific gestures with direct meaning, e.g., thumbs up)
2. Illustrators (gestures that accompany speech)
3. Affect displays (facial expressions showing emotions)
4. Regulators (gestures that control conversation flow)
5. Adaptors (self-touching behaviors)

8. What do you understand by oculesics and tactilics?
Answer:
Oculesics: It is the study of eye behavior and eye contact in communication. It includes eye gaze, eye movement, pupil dilation, and duration of eye contact. Eye contact is a powerful tool that shows attention, interest, honesty, or dominance.
Tactilics (Haptics): It is the study of touch as a form of non-verbal communication. It includes handshakes, pats on the back, hugs, holding hands, etc. The meaning of touch varies according to culture, relationship, and context.

9. What is the role of time in communication?
Answer:
Time plays a significant role in communication and is studied under Chronemics.
Monochronic time culture: People do one thing at a time, value punctuality, and follow strict schedules.
Polychronic time culture: People do multiple things at once and are more flexible with time.
The way a person uses time (being on time, delaying, waiting, etc.) sends strong messages about their attitude, respect, status, and urgency.
