C. Fill in the blanks:
1. A _____________ is a computer network that is spread across cities, countries and continents.
Answer: WAN
2. In ____________ topology, a single cable known as backbone or bus carries all the data.
Answer: BUS
3. _______________ uses radio waves to provide wireless high speed internet and network connection.
Answer: Wi-Fi
4. _____________ has a ROM chip that contains a unique number, which is the hardware address or the MAC address.
Answer: NIC
5. In a _______________ network, a few computers of similar power and capacity are connected together.
Answer: P2P
D. Answer the following questions:
1. What do you mean by computer networking?
Answer: Networking refers to the interconnection of various computers to share their data and information. In other words when two or more computers connected to each other and share their data and information, this connection is known as networking.
2. Give any three advantages of a computer network.
Answer: Advantages of computer network:
1. Sharing of software: Software on a network can be shared with many people. People can run software which are not installed on their own computer.
2. Sharing of hardware: Networking of computers enables users to share hardware resources like scanner, printers etc.
3. Communication: A network reduces the need for hard copies of all documents. By sharing files over the network, the need for hard copies of reports or nay other information can be eliminated or greatly reduced.
3. Explain bus and star topologies.
Answer:
Bus Topology: In Bus Topology, a single cable known as backbone or bus carriers all the data. Communication travels in both the directions along the line, and can be received by any workstation.
Star Topology: In star topology, all computers are connected by cables to a central device hub or switch. All communication between computers passes through the hub or switch before it can be transferred to its destination.
4. What do you mean by network security? What are the two general levels of network security?
Answer: Network security: While working on a network, a computer can be accessed by many users. It is important to protect the network from unauthorized access and prevent the loss or misuse of data or information.
There are two general levels of network security:
1. Login Security b. Rights Security
5. Write short notes on Bluetooth wireless technology and Wi-Fi.
Answer:
Bluetooth wireless technology: Bluetooth is wireless technology that lets you talk and share information like voice, music and videos. Bluetooth technology was invented in 1994 by engineers at Ericsson.
Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi stands for Wireless Fidelity. It is the name of a popular wireless networking technology that uses radio waves to provide wireless high-speed internet and network connections.
