Printer(Impact,Non-impact Printer):

A Printer is an external hardware output device that takes the electronic data stored on a computer or other device and generates a tough copy of it. For example, if you created a report on your computer, you'll print several copies handy out at a staff meeting. Printers are one among the foremost popular computer peripherals and are commonly wont to print text and photos.
There are two types of printers:

1. Impact Printer
2. Non- Impact Printer

What Is an Impact Printer?

An impact printer must physically strike a ribbon against the paper to form a mark, which is where the name comes from. In the early days of the computer era, the best print quality came from so-called daisy-wheel printers, which worked pretty much like a typewriter operated by a super-humanly fast typist.

What Is a Non-Impact Printer?
Once you recognize what an impression printer is, it is easy to guess that non-impact printers are the other . They don't hammer a letter onto the paper, but use a spread of gentler, quieter technologies instead. Inkjet printers are somewhat almost like dot-matrix printers, but rather than pins striking a ribbon they form letters with print nozzles that squirt tiny, almost microscopic dots of ink.

Impact Printers:

Impact printers are the oldest printing technologies. Some of the most important printer vendors still manufacture, market, and support impact printers, parts, and supplies.

Impact printers are most functional in specialized environments where low-cost printing is important . The three commonest sorts of impact printers are dot-matrix, daisy-wheel, and line printers.
Dot-Matrix Printers:

The technology behind dot-matrix printing is sort of simple. The paper is pressed against a drum and is intermittently pulled forward as printing progresses. The electromagnetically head moves across the paper and strikes the printer ribbon.

Dot-matrix vary in print resolution and overall quality with either 9 or 24-pin print heads. The more pins per inch, the upper the print resolution. These printers have a maximum resolution of around 240 dpi. While this resolution isn't as high as those possible in laser or inkjet printers, there's one distinct advantage to dot-matrix printing.
Daisy-Wheel Printers:

If you've ever worked with a manual typewriter before, then you understand the technological concept behind daisy-wheel printers. These printers have print heads composed of metallic or plastic wheels dig petals. Each petal has the form of a letter (in capital and lower-case), number, or punctuation thereon .

They cannot print graphics, and can't change fonts unless the print wheel is physically replaced. With the arrival of laser printers, daisy-wheel printers are generally not utilized in modern computing environments.
Line Printers:

Another kind of printer somewhat almost just like the daisy-wheel is that the line printer .

The mechanism may use an outsized spinning print drum or a looped print chain.

They use special tractor-fed paper with pre-punched holes along all sides . This makes continuous unattended high-speed printing possible, with stops only required when a box of paper runs out.

The samples of Non-Impact printers are:
 1- electrostatic printer
 2- Inkjet Printer
 3- printer

Laser Printer:
A printer is that the fastest and high quality non-impact printer. It works sort of a photocopier. The printer transfers the image of output on paper using LASER technology and toner. Toner is an ink powder. it's utilized in laser printers and photocopiers also.

The printer features a special drum inside it. First the image of output is formed on the drum, then it's transferred from drum to paper. The image of output is formed on the drum by throwing ink powder within the type of microscopic dots. These dots are often from 300 dpi to 1200 dpi (dpi means dots per inch and these dots refers to microscopic dots).

The printer can print both text and graphics in very high quality resolution. electrostatic printer prints one page at a time. The printing speed is about 4 to 32 pages per minute for microcomputer and up to 200 pages per minute.

Ink Jet Printer:

Ink-jet printer is sort of non-impact printer. Inkjet printer has print-head which can spray very fine drops of ink. It consists of print cartridge full of liquid ink and has small nozzles in kind of matrix. Like matrix printer, the mixture of nozzles is activated to make the form of character or image on the paper by spraying the liquid ink.
The ink-jet printers have low price. they're also slower and have low print quality than printer . However, they're faster and have hight print quality than matrix printers. The printing speed of matrix printer is from 1 to 6 pages per minute.
Thermal Printer:
Thermal printer is another sort of non-impact printer. The image if the output is formed on the waxy paper by burning dots thereon . For coloured output, coloured waxy sheets are used.

Thermal Printer produces a top quality printout. it's quite expansive as compared to other non-impact printers.
